So last Saturday night Craig and I waited to eat supper until the kids were in bed. That's right dinner, just the 2 of us. A little wine and... CHEESE! I love cheese and this was such an easy cheese fondue recipe to make.
Cheese fondue recipe:
1 cup apple juice
2 cups aged cheddar
1 cup grated swiss cheese
Fresh ground black pepper to taste.
3 shakes of Worcestershire sauce
Bring apple juice to a simmer in a pot on the stove. Add cheese and Worcestershire sauce. Turn down the heat to low and stir more than occasionally but less than frequently until the cheese is melted. Add pepper.
Transfer to a fondue pot to keep warm.
Ours
We dipped french bread, grapes and granny smith apple chunks. My favorite was the grapes.
And we drank wine that we made from the choke cherries that grow on the tree in out front yard.
This stay in date was a frugal finer thing indeed. (Well except we watched Food Inc. after that)
There are no pictures of the 2 of us because you know we were too busy smooching and eating and such... :)

Sweet! Date nights are definitely finer things!
That is too cool and totally something I should do with my hubs. He gets home so many nights after the kids are in bed. Great idea.
Our kids have been staying up really late this summer - we enjoyed an outside date a couple of months ago.
Your recipe sounds yummy
cute about you smooching :)
That is ADORABLE! I have a fondue pot that has yet to be used (who doesn't?) I really might actually do this.
You have inspired me to start date night up again in our house...we used to do it every week, then we moved, then I had my first trimester...as you can see the excuses come fast and furious! That does look awesome though :)
This is a great, thrifty idea. Come join me for Thrifty Thursdays.
How fun! Would it be wrong to put our kids to bed at 5pm? LOL Even our 16 year old? Hee! Hee! I will have to make that cheese fondue. Sounds yummy.

You know, I never would have thought about dipping apples and grapes in cheese. I'll have to try that sometime. :)
Have a great weekend!
The recipe looks amazing. Thanks for the idea. This weekend hubby is celebrating a birthday, so now I have an idea...thank you!
Looks yummy! Sounds like you had a great night.
yummy! I love cheese fondue. Okay, let's just make it I love fondue.
Stopping by on the link-up. Cute post and very neat idea! We tried the Melting Pot(fondue restaurant)last year for our anniversary and loved it! But doing it at home sounds like fun too. :-) Of course the way my kids have trouble sleeping we might end up eating in the middle of the night! lol
Nice to 'meet' you,
Tyra
I'm scared to watch Food Inc., but I know I need to!
Never thought about having a fondue date night. What a great idea. I'll be on the lookout for a fondue pot.
