What I Want to Learn This Week

Yes that's right! I am reversing this post to ask you what you know about what I want to know. (Mwahahaha I feel so rebellious).

So here is what I want to know:

How do you sit at the feet of Jesus and listen? What do you do in that silence? Are you able to take your thoughts captive and really focus on hearing what the Holy Spirit is telling you?

Please let me glean your wisdom and leave me a comment answering these questions. Thank you.

I know what you mean, it's not always easy. I think the more you do it, the easier it gets, and some times are easier than others.

Sometimes I cannot even attempt to do that with others in the house, any noise just distracts me, but at other times i can just go with it and carry on.

using a journal and writing the stuff down really helps me, especially when i am real with God in my journal.

It's hard...no doubt! I listen to a lot of podcasts with some good solid teaching on them. I usually write down scripture references and then look them up during my quiet times. After I read then I just sit there in quiet and reflect. Then I write my prayers for the day in a journal. On some days, the days when I am really tired, I just sit and drink my coffee and listen and ask God to pour into me what I need for that day. And it always gives me peace.

As far as taking thoughts captive goes I am still a long way from achieving that. I've found that having my quiet time first thing in the morning sort of keeps me from having my mind wander...because I'm too tired to think. But taking every thought captive is a moment by moment thing all day long.

What a great question! One that makes me realize I need to do a whole lot more listening.

Most days the only quiet time I have is in the car on the way to work. The beautiful winter mornings with all the pink and purple morning colors of sunrise always remind me to be still, pray, and listen (while driving of course) .

Being still and just listening is one of the hardest things for me. I really need to work on that. I know...no help right?

Sarah, this is a tough one in a house full of littles. I know some people get up early and that is their quiet time with the Lord. For me I find that the night is the quietest in my home. However, I think that I often hear Jesus during even the most chaotic of times. I guess what I am trying to say is we need to be open to hear Him at all times. I don't know if this helps you. I wish I had something better to offer. Take care.

I agree with the first comment that it does get easier the more you do it. But sometimes it is still a struggle and a discipline thing, to just sit and listen.

I look at everything that has gone in my life or that day, and what is to come, and seek hard to see where God was or will be in each event.

It is when I least expect it that I truly hear Him speaking to me. That is what is so Awesome about it.

I look forward to the day when my house is a little quieter - but until then...
I hear from God most at church while I'm worshiping Him.
The other time I hear Him is while I'm hanging clothes on the line.
Now that I think about it it's often when I don't ask Him to speak to me.
Great questions.
