If you read the above quote and think to yourself "Wayne Shenk? Who is Wayne Shenk?" That is ok. Very few of you who are reading this have ever even heard of Wayne Shenk. Even fewer will know him.
Wayne Shenk is an encourager. I eat breakfast with this spirit filled man most Sunday mornings and I usually leave with something wonderful.
Sometimes it is a lesson. I was explaining to Wayne once that I was so afraid to speak in front of the church. He said to me "That's a pride problem."
Duh! Of course it is! If I would just take my eyes off myself and have my gaze be on Jesus, whom then shall I fear?
Yesterday morning I was telling Wayne and his lovely wife Donna that I was contemplating sewing lessons. I really want to, but can I fit it in with all of my other crafts and hobbies?
My dear friend had yet another obvious point of wisdom for me. "Of course your should learn to sew. You need to teach your daughter."
Profound and yet so simple.
I have been praying for God to give me right motives in what I do. Changing my reason for wanting to sew from "it would be so cool" to "this is a gift I will have to give others" is such a better prospective to have.

I LOVE that perspective. I just need to make sure I adopt it in moderation. My flaw would be 10-hour blogging marathon sessions under the gise of teaching Seth how to type. ;)

That's s great perspective. Especially for the things that we have to learn, but don't want to. Like managing finances (my hubby and I have made a real mess of ours). We are fixing our finances and hope to leave the legacy of living a debt-free life for our kids.
I just never saw it as a gift before.

I love it when God sends people to speak simple wisdom into our lives. I had a mentor like that in college and to this day her words come back to me when I need them most. Thank you for sharing about your friend and for being (in) with us!
