Motivate Me Monday- The Final Curtain

I have been reading a book called One Month To Live by Chris and Kerry Shook. I am taking inventory of how I spend my time and what the most worthwhile ways to spend my time are.

As much as I love to blog, read comments and read and comment on other's blogs I am saying goodbye to this.

There are two little human beings and one big human being who deserve to have my attention. Not only that there is a sewing machine that I love to sit at and create and there are runs to train for. There are places for me to go and see...

So with this last post I want to ask you to examine your own life and see if there is something that you feel the need to sacrifice to really start living.

I was blessed to have received three different scented melting wax tarts from 3 Hog Candle Company. I was sent Hawaiian Escape, Fresh Linen and Bubble Gum. They smell divine! I was so pleased to come upstairs and have my house smell fresh and clean. The colors are vibrant and pretty. Soy and paraffin wax is used to make these scent tarts and they melt so smoothly. 3 Hog Candle Company's prices are exceptional as well! Only $3.75 per 6 pack. There are a ton of scents to choose from so head on over and order your favorite.

Oh how I love to try new things. Especially if I think I will be successful at them. So when I found a glass etching tutorial over at Make It and Love It I just had to try it out.

I etched 2 of these wine goblets with tree branches for a wedding gift. It was quite easy peasy.
Taking a clear picture late at night was not so easy peasy however :)

Motivate Me Monday - Are You Attractive?

If you read my review of Same Kind of Different as Me by Denver Moore and Ron Hall yesterday, then you may have been pondering the question I asked.

Does the way you live your life attract others to Christ?

In other words are you letting His light shine through you? Are you loving?

Oh how easy it is to love our children or our spouse. It's not a problem to love your parents or siblings (most of the time).
To love those who may not love you back, those who are unlovely, that is the real challenge.

So today think of someone to love that may not (even probably won't) return the favor. Heck they may not even accept your love.
Then step out in faith and practically love that person.
You may start with prayer asking God to open your eyes to opportunities to help this person (or others). Next comes the uncomfortable part. Obey. See the need and meet it.

This is a huge challenge for me as well, but I want to step out of the boat....so here I go.

Book Review- Same Kind of Different as Me by Ron Hall and Denver Moore

A true story that crosses the barriers of society.

If you have not already read Same Kind of Different as Me then I recommend that you put it at the very top of your summer reading list.
This story is a beautiful and inspirational testimony of how God works to create miracles. When Jesus commanded us to love one another He knew what He was talking about. There are many heart wrenching examples of loving those who are unlovely through out Same Kind of Different as me.

I will warn you to grab a box of tissues though as this book is a tear jerker.

I am a Starbucks gal. I love toffee nut lattes. Hot or iced it doesn't matter. They lift my mood and give me a little dance in my step. The price however is not all that lovely. Well you'll never believe what I came across at a yard sale.

Yup that's right an espresso machine... and the price of this little gem... get ready for it...

My sweet husband (who is the barista at our house) even made this cool decal for the top.

House Update!!

Come now you must have known this was coming! Here are some updated photos of our dream house.

The outside hasn't changed a whole lot yet except now there are wild flower and wild strawberries abound. So come inside and I will give you a mini tour :)

This will be my kitchen. Those big windows are leaving and the 2 small ones in the corner on the right are staying. In the left corner which you can't see there is a fantastic pantry and a spot for the fridge.

This is the living room. I will probably change the decor before we move in though. There will be French doors where that closest window is on the left that lead out to the invisible deck we don't have yet.

The laundry/powder room. That filthy broken gross toilet came with the house but is also long before we move in. The stove isn't staying in the laundry room either. (Or in the house for that matter).

My bedroom. Note the walk in closet that makes me weak in the knees. I admit not as big as some but still a wonderful size for me. I may let Craig use a small corner if he begs.

Motivate Me Monday - Kicking the Bucket List

I was going to write my summer bucket list and encourage you to do the same and take advantage of every blissful sunny day that comes your way. Plan your opportunities so you don't miss out...

On second thought I am going to tell you to kick the bucket list. Kick the bucket list you may ask? Then my summer will be wasted.

Lean closer my friends as I have another idea. Actually it's not my idea at all. This idea comes straight from ancient writings.

Do not boast about tomorrow,
for you do not know what a day may bring forth.
Proverbs 27:1

For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Jeremiah 29:11

So here is my challenge. For the rest of the summer rise early (yes even if the kids are still sleeping). Hand the day before you over to God. Then wait expectantly for Him to give you opportunities to choose life. Ask God to open your eyes to ways that you can make an impact for His kingdom.

I'm not saying don't make plans, burn your calendar and lay in your hammock waiting for God to show you what to do. I am telling you be willing to let God change your plans. Trust Him and know that what ever work He is doing in the situations of your day are good.

Book Review- I am Hutterite By Mary Ann Kirkby

When she was ten, her parents packed up their seven children and a handful of possessions and left the colony to start a new life. With great humor, Kirkby describes how she adapted to popular culture, and with raw honesty she describes her family's deep sense of loss for their community. More than a history lesson, I Am Hutterite is a powerful tale of retracing steps and understanding how our beginnings often define us.

I must tell you I loved this book! I could not put it down. I learned so many interesting things about the Hutterite culture. I had no idea that they pooled their resources and shared their assets. I love that each member of the community has a job to do and that the function of the colony is so well organized. I actually found myself thinking that Hutterite living just might be a great idea (then I remembered how much I love my ipod and my SUV).

I highly recommend reading I am Hutterite. The only thing I didn't like about the book is that it ended and I wanted the story to go on.

Tell me a bit about you.

Well, I've been divorced for 17 years (Yes, 17. That's not a typo). I'm the Mother of 2 Wonderful, Grown Sons. One is a Deputy in West Palm Beach and My Youngest is now flying Blackhawks in the Army. Both are married and I consider them to be the greatest Assets of My life.
I also am a Registered nurse and work full-time nights in a stepdown and ICU. I just can't seem to get that "helping people" out of my system. It seems to be right up there with breathing.
I live with 3 cats and try to make things as simple as possible. I garden like a Crazy person and restore antiques when I wish. All shops are dedicated to my Mother who passed in 2008. She had an 'eye' for beauty and the unusual and passed it onto me. If I'm not doing the shops, I'm online and taking courses for my certification specialty.

I would say to just keep going even if it's in 'baby steps'. A seed doesn't become a Tree overnight and the site will blossom. Remind yourself that it is a privilege to be part of something new. We are never Promised a tomorrow so do as much as you can today even if that means sitting down to a keyboard.

Everything Including The Bathroom Sink.

I have been on the hunt for a 14" vessel sink to top my antique dresser vanity in my dream house. Not an easy task I assure you. I was totally thrilled when the amazing folk at CSN introduced me to Just Vanities. An entire online store with oodles and oodles of bathroom vanities, sinks and taps.

Now I opted to spend a little more than the $50 gift certificate I was awarded for this review and purchase the item I had been searching for. A 14" vessel sink.

Don't you love it? I do! The sink is a gorgeous brown glass (think old bottles).
It shipped so fast and was well packaged. Very impressed. This sink will for sure be a feature piece in my new bathroom.

Tell me a bit about you.
I'm retired from the foreign service & now living in Las Vegas. I focus full-time on creating home decor pieces from my collection of textiles I've gathered during my years spent in the Middle East & Southeast Asia.
I have a 20-yr old daughter who has just gotten her certification to become a veterinary assistant. She has a menagerie of cats & dogs that are all cuter than cute. I love hearing from her about their antics and what they're all up to.
My hobbies include reading and in-depth research into the history and cultures of those foreign countries in which I have lived and traveled. To me it is a fascinating study and and I do spend countless hours at it.

Where does your inspiration come from?
My inspiration comes from the colors and "hand" of the fabrics themselves. I like to make one-of-a-kind pieces of art. Each one takes lots of time. If it is not "just right" it is not beyond me to tear it out and start over....often 4 or 5 times. I'm so grateful to whoever invented "retirement" so I now have the time to devote to this sort of thing. I'm also inspired by my textile library. Although I do not make couture clothing (good grief, the thought of it!) I have read lots of biographies of those who do. I'm inspired by how they are all masters of their crafts. Many of them learned to sew when they were young children at their mothers' knee. When I lived in Paris I had the opportunity to visit many of their fashion houses. Of course, being aghast at the prices I now know why they are so expensive: all are hand-sewn by a select few who possess great skill with just a needle and thread. In their work the sewing machine is used rarely. To me that is fascinating. One of my favorite books is about the House of Lesage, the French embroidery firm. Although they now outsource most of their work to India to reduce labor costs, the photos of their works are stunning. My first reaction when seeing examples was "how could human hands possibly make something so beautiful?" If you're not familiar with Lesage, and are interested, I would highly recommend researching the type of work they do.

Any words of inspiration for other Zibbet sellers?
I would say to not give up and let people know you exist! If you love what you do and have the time to devote to your craft that is what is important. Your passion will come through in the final product. Don't be too focused on the financial returns. It will take all the joy out of your art. At least for me it does.

We've had excitement and sorrow throughout our marriage, but I am filled with such joy to know that we are committed. Our vows are not just a contract they are a covenant.

Motivate Me Monday- No Expectations

Last week I had extra kiddos at my house for 3 days (they went home in the evening). Now these children were not behaving poorly or anything like that. They just add extra noise. Ages 2-6 just have very little volume control.

That first day I imagined my husband coming home to take care of the kids until the dad of the other children came so I could run to the store (blissfully alone) and pick something up for supper.

So when the first words out of his mouth were "I need a shower." Pop went my dreams of alone time and kaboom went my temper. It was ugly folks. I stomped my feet, balled up my fists and screamed "I need to go to the store." (Pretty eh? Do you still want to read my blog?)

Let's examine what went wrong:

1. I was making my own plans.

When I make my own plans and get wrapped up in what I want and the thoughts in my head turn to ME ME ME! I mean never mind that my husband has been working all day on building our house or that he might be tired as well... all I was concerned with was my needs.

2. I was living with my expectations.

My own expectations are so much less than what God has for me. God chooses to bless us because He loves us. He chooses to withhold blessings because He loves us. He is God almighty and powerful and yet He loves me. When I live expectantly without expectations I am trusting God. I am expecting him to keep His promises and to love me, but not demanding that he bends to my will and does things my way.

So my encouragement today is to let go of your own plans and agenda. Give up your life so that you will have the life Christ has for you. Live expectantly without expectations.

Motivate Me Monday - Kindness

Now after telling you about this challenge I must tell you that I will not be joining the fun. Not because I don't think it's a worthy endeavor. I think this is a great idea. I just know that if I blog about the kind things I do, I will then be looking for comments about the kind things I have done, and my motives will be moved from spreading the love of Jesus to having my horn tooted.

Laura's post did get me to thinking about living more radically for Jesus though. In fact my heart longs to live fully for God. I am so not there. I have been radical in the past. Just over a year ago I took my family and camped out in "the hood". I learned some very valuable lessons from that experience, but the lessons are starting to fade. I am becoming too comfortable.

I don't have a plan yet but I am looking for opportunities to love abundantly and live for my Lord.

Let me introduce you to Cindy.

Isn't she fun? Cindy is the artist behind CLP Studio . She sells amazing hand painted purses, handbags, and all things carryable!

So without further ado here's Cindy:

I consider myself a Messenger of Art. I’m inspired by taking a classic/master’s work from a traditional “frame on a wall” and reconfiguring it to an unconventional canvas like a bag or a pair of shoes so it can be appreciated in a new, fresh way and enjoyed by many on a daily basis. I’ve amassed quite a collection of art books and can spend hours poring over them. Or I’ll spend hours on the computer just looking at art – in any form. I see it everywhere.

I am married (32 years) and have two children (well, 2 adults: a son who is 30 and a daughter 29.) Don’t forget my two assistants (four legged furry canine kind) who follow me everywhere and oversee (oversleep!) every painting project. Try as I might, I still cannot teach them to paint –it’s that dangnable thumb thing. If only they could run a vacuum and do dishes I could paint even more!!

I’m partial to all the bags for a variety of reasons, but if I had to pick… Girl Around the World – it’s an original that’s just up-tempo and fun. Full Blossom – A lovely Asian inspired floral by Don Li-Leger. Peace Dog and Phil – simply whimsical and fun with a good message. The following two aren’t currently in my shop but I’m very attached to them…Graffitti artist Banksy’s Laugh Now – as it’s a thought provoking commentary. Sudden Showers Over Shono – by Ando Hiroshige, an 1800’s Japanese artist with over 5,400 works. He’s one of my favorites. I truly do get excited about each and every one though.

I really enjoy what I do, and so many things inspire me. I’ve always had what I term L.D.L. (low delight level!) so I am quite easily amused and inspired. I try to branch out to various selling venues, which keeps me busy. But should it get slow I just figure if I keep painting – they will come someday! I look at these slow times as great opportunities to learn new things like Twitter, get organized, try new painting techniques and catch up. It just tends to work itself all out somehow – assuming I keep working it (-;

Motivate Me Monday- Praying for Our Children

Those of you who are diligent MMM readers may remember a post I wrote at the beginning of the year titled Praying for My Children. I confessed in the post that I am not praying NEARLY enough for the little ones that God has placed in my care.

Today I still have that same confession. So here I am to write down a list of things I will pray for my children this week. (I need to bite off a little at a time).

That they will have soft hearts and receive the love of Christ easily.
That they will readily forgive those who hurt or offend them. (Especially if that person is me).
For their protection from the evil one who seeks to destroy them.
For their future spouses.
That they would be wise and trust God.

Book Review- Kaleidoscope by Patsy Clairmont

I just love getting free books to review from Book Sneeze. Recently I was sent Kaleidoscope By Patsy Clairmont.

Proverbs is one of my favorite books in the bible so I was quite thrilled to be receiving a devotional book about proverbs. Patsy writes this Kaleidoscope using quirky humor. She asks questions at the end of each short chapter and provides other scriptures that pertain to the topic at hand.

Kaleidoscope is an easy read. There are plenty of personal stories through out to illustrate the proverb being discussed and how it applies to real life situations.

Some of the questions asked at the end of the chapters are very thought provoking and others are light hearted and funny. My favorite being "Are you barnish?"

While I enjoyed this book I do not feel like there was a real connection with the author, not any deep heart stirrings from reading it.

So if you are looking for a light, easy to swallow look at proverbs then I recommend Kaleidoscope for you.

Jesus Anniversary

I read a book a while ago about creating special memories in your family. One of the suggestions was to celebrate the of your child asking Jesus into their hearts. I fell head over heals in love with this idea. So we did it!

We had a celebration for Hudson's Jesus anniversary. It was fairly low key but really special.
Our good friends were invited over.
We made spaghetti and Hudson served each person at the table. Craig prayed a special prayer for Hudson and we had cake.

There were some really neat presents as well. Our guest brought Hudson a hand painted Super Jesus shirt (which he is opening in the above picture) and I made him a Jesus super hero cape.

Celebrating extra special occasions is for sure a Finer Thing!

I made my son this Super Jesus cape last Friday during nap time.

I just love how it turned out. I used a pattern from puking pastilles etsy shop. She is currently having a summer sale so be sure to stop by!

I also painted (using a stencil made with my QuicKutz Silhouette). For God so loved the world... on the inside of the cape.

I just love how in The Message God is described as "God of the Angel Armies". He is huge and mighty. We can not even comprehend His holiness. We can not over exaggerate His greatness.

Yet I often forget that I was created for Him and not the other way around. God made me to serve and love Him. I did not make a God for my service and pleasure.

All things were created by him. He created everything in heaven and on earth. He created everything that can be seen and everything that can't be seen. He created kings, powers, rulers and authorities. Everything was created by him and for him. Colossians 1:16

God is not my genie in a bottle, nor is He part of a 12 step plan to get rich (or have a clean house or get my kids to obey). He is God!

And so my desire is to choose relationship with God over requests of God. To abide with Him and dwell in His presence. To be silent and soak in what I can of His love. To obey and love others.

Motivate Me Monday- He Takes Care of It.

"I'll do the judging," says God. "I'll take care of it." Romans 12:19 (Message)

My oldest child often forgets that he is a child in our family and not a third parent. He is often after his sister for some crime committed whether it is truly against the law or not.

A common question at my house is "Hudson who is the Mommy?"

My son does not need to take on the burden of parenting his sister. I am there. I will take care of it.

In the above scripture this is what God is telling us. You don't need to have the burden of judging others. I am here. I will take care of it.

So today I am inspired to take up the call to love one another. Yes we should live with discernment and yes we should have wisdom as our guide, but we do not need to be weighed down with others decisions. Love.

Pop Bottle Watering System

This idea came to me via my mother who received it from a coworker I believe.

Materials:

2 liter pop bottle
a pin
a large planting pot
soil
plants
an eager 20 month old who loves dirt (optional)

Step 1:

Poke holes around the bottom of the bottle. I fount that 1 hole per plastic bump works best.

Step 2:

Fill the pot 1/2 to 2/3 full of soil and place the bottle in the center.

Step 3:

Fill the pot with soil around the bottle so just the spout sticks up.

Step 4:

Pull your toddler out of the dirt for the 100th time. (This step may be skipped if you don't have a toddler).

Step 5:

Plant your plants.

Step 6:

Fill your pop bottle watering system (with water). In my climate I only have to fill it every other day.

*Note: a garden hose would be my reccomended filling method, but fr this picture the watering can was handy. Also if you can save the bottle cap and replace it after filling. This helps the water drip more slowly.

Motivate Me Monday - Things that Have touched my Heart

Good morning! I am back after a week of being gone. This Motivate Me Monday I want to leave you with two things. The song that has been running through my head since last Sunday:

And a story a friend sent me in an email a while ago. This has stuck with me and I ponder it often:

Ducks Quack. Eagles Soar!

No one can make you serve customers well....that's because great service is a choice.

Harvey Mackay, tells a wonderful story about a cab driver that proved this point.

He was waiting in line for a ride at the airport. When a cab pulled up, the first thing Harvey noticed was that the taxi was polished to a bright shine. Smartly dressed in a white shirt, black tie, and freshly pressed black slacks, the cab driver jumped out and rounded the car to open the back passenger door for Harvey .

He handed my friend a laminated card and said: 'I'm Wally, your driver. While I'm loading your bags in the trunk I'd like you to read my mission statement.'

Taken aback, Harvey read the card. It said: Wally's Mission Statement: To get my customers to their destination in the quickest, safest and cheapest way possible in a friendly environment....

This blew Harvey away. Especially when he noticed that the inside of the cab matched the outside. Spotlessly clean!

As he slid behind the wheel, Wally said, 'Would you like a cup of coffee? I have a thermos of regular and one of decaf.' My friend said jokingly, 'No, I'd prefer a soft drink.' Wally smiled and said, 'No problem. I have a cooler up front with regular and Diet Coke, water and orange juice..' Almost stuttering, Harvey said, 'I'll take a Diet Coke.'

Handing him his drink, Wally said, 'If you'd like something to read, I have The Wall Street Journal, Time, Sports Illustrated and USA Today..'

As they were pulling away, Wally handed my friend another laminated card, 'These are the stations I get and the music they play, if you'd like to listen to the radio.'

And as if that weren't enough, Wally told Harvey that he had the air conditioning on and asked if the temperature was comfortable for him. Then he advised Harvey of the best route to his destination for that time of day. He also let him know that he'd be happy to chat and tell him about some of the sights or, if Harvey preferred, to leave him with his own thoughts...

'Tell me, Wally,' my amazed friend asked the driver, 'have you always served customers like this?'

Wally smiled into the rear view mirror. 'No, not always. In fact, it's only been in the last two years. My first five years driving, I spent most of my time complaining like all the rest of the cabbies do. Then I heard the personal growth guru, Wayne Dyer, on the radio one day.

He had just written a book called You'll See It When You Believe It. Dyer said that if you get up in the morning expecting to have a bad day, you'll rarely disappoint yourself. He said, 'Stop complaining! Differentiate yourself from your competition. Don't be a duck. Be an eagle. Ducks quack and complain. Eagles soar above the crowd.'

'That hit me right between the eyes,' said Wally. 'Dyer was really talking about me. I was always quacking and complaining, so I decided to change my attitude and become an eagle. I looked around at the other cabs and their drivers. The cabs were dirty, the drivers were unfriendly, and the customers were unhappy. So I decided to make some changes. I put in a few at a time. When my customers responded well, I did more.'

'I take it that has paid off for you,' Harvey said.

'It sure has,' Wally replied. 'My first year as an eagle, I doubled my income from the previous year. This year I'll probably quadruple it. You were lucky to get me today. I don't sit at cabstands anymore. My customers call me for appointments on my cell phone or leave a message on my answering machine. If I can't pick them up myself, I get a reliable cabbie friend to do it and I take a piece of the action.'

Wally was phenomenal. He was running a limo service out of a Yellow Cab. I've probably told that story to more than fifty cab drivers over the years, and only two took the idea and ran with it. Whenever I go to their cities, I give them a call. The rest of the drivers quacked like ducks and told me all the reasons they couldn't do any of what I was suggesting.

Wally the Cab Driver made a different choice. He decided to stop quacking like ducks and start soaring like eagles.

Motivate Me Monday - Carpe Diem

Tomorrow is my birthday. I will be 28. I have been thinking about my life.
What do I do every day?
How am I living?
What do I want to do?
How do I want to live?

There is a a vinyl decal on my kitchen wall that says:

Carpe Diem Seize the Day.
That is what I want. I want a life where the first think I think of when I wake up is praying, not checking my email. I want to be excited about playing with my children, not blog comments. I want to use my time to be with the ones I love and worshiping my Lord, I want to sew, I want a home that is tidy and organized. I want life abundantly.

Abundant life does not happen at a computer keyboard.  

So I am unplugging for the week. I will still schedule some of my blog posts, but I will not be checking for comments. I hope to spend at least one day of this week on a hiatus with God. Just He and me. I hope to spend time teaching and playing with my children and letting them know that they are so much more precious to me than internet land. I plan to fall in love with my husband and serve him in our home. I hope to actually use my new routine.

I plan to really LIVE!!!

Ok I am going to try something...

... this may come as a shock to some of you but...
I am not an organized person.
But I want to be one.... so... I am going to try a schedule.
It has to be a loose schedule though. Here is my plan:

Monday: Errand day. It's good to get out after the weekend right? Plus errands are exciting and chase away the Monday blahs.

Tuesday: Baking / clean the bathroom / wash the floors. By Tuesday I should have come to terms with the fact that the week has started and I will be able to focus on some house wifey things to do.

Wednesday: Small bulk writing day. This includes blogging, adding to my shop, and finding items for my features.

Thursday: Declutter / sew. Not that I will only sew on Thursday because that would be a tragedy. I will just make time to sew especially on Thursday. I found a great tip for dealing with clutter from Amy
over at New Nostalgia.

Friday: Big bulk Writing day. Similar to small bulk writing day just more of it:)

Well I am off to toss some stuff and perhaps cut out a sewing project! Have a productive day!

Motivate Me Monday- Answer The Call

I am resurrecting this post originally written on July 26 2009 due to a tummy bug that has suddenly hit me.

I have debated whether or not to write this. I really don't want this post to be about me. So as you read this know that God is the one to be glorified in this story.

Yesterday as we were headed to church there was a man in a winter coat sitting on the side of the road near the beginning of a bridge we have to cross. It was very hot outside. As we crossed the bridge the holy spirit spoke to me.
"Invite that man to church."
I turned to my husband and said "Do you think we should go back and invite that man to church?"
Craig said "If you think so."
I begged Craig to talk to the fellow so i wouldn't have to. I wrestled with my flesh. I feared rejection. My heart beat a mile a minute.
We turned around and pulled up beside this stranger. I rolled down my window and out of my mouth came the words "You look awfully hot sitting there. We're headed to church. Would you like to come with us?"
To my complete shock he said "Well I am waiting for a ride to Northside church from my cousin."
Northside is our church. Turns out his cousin is our good friend.
So he got in our car to catch a ride with us.
I don't know why God had us give this man a ride instead of his cousin (who happened to be right behind us). However I do know that by answering the call God worked through me in spite of my fears.

Another really cool part of this story is that I was reading Proverbs 31 Saturday night. Often we think of this as being the ultimate woman proverb. However Proverbs 31:8-9 (Message) reads:

"Speak up for the people who have no voice,
for the rights of all the down-and-outers.
Speak out for justice!
Stand up for the poor and destitute!"

I wrote in my bible (yes I wrote in my bible) beside this passage of scripture:

God show me these people and give me compassion and courage. In Jesus name.

Look how faithful our God is! The very next morning He gave me what I asked for. I am in awe of what our Father does.

Dream House

Well yesterday I mentioned that I would be looking for a new name for my blog(s) and Zibbet shop.
Here's why:

Are you in love yet? I am smitten! We are in the process of purchasing an 8.7 acre former grow op. (Which means we are paying very little for this property)

Here is my favorite part:

The upstairs room. This will be half playroom and half my studio. (there's more room behind the camera).

I imagine this place having a fantastic name like Green Gables but something more my own. We will have chickens and a goat. There will be a guest cottage in the loft of the workshop/barn.

God truly does give us the desires of our hearts.

So please leave me comments with name suggestions for this house, your favorite home decor and design blogs and your prayers as there is a lot of tearing down and rebuilding to do.

Gratituesday- Blessings in Difficult Situations

It started on Thursday night. My went into Meadows room to check on her and there was my baby girl sleeping in puke. Gross! She was better by Sunday morning... Then Hudson loses his breakfast!

By Sunday night Hudson is very dehydrated and starts complaining of back pain. Off to the Out Patient we go.

Sitting there was sooo boring... but I am blessed with a husband who texted me several 30 second videos of himself reading Green Eggs and Ham.

We arrived home at about midnight. Exhausted boy and exhausted mommy.

Meadow was chipper in the morning though. So alas I dragged myself out of bed. And then... there was a knock at the door. I opened it to this face:

... and breakfast. Coffee and a sausage and egg biscuit for me, yougurt parfait for Meadow and a muffin for Hudson should he feel better and want to eat.

Motivate Me Monday- Bloom Where You are Planted!

Today I am going to do something a little different. I am going to share an interview with one of the most inspirational families I know. They are not famous, or rich, they are regular (except God made them special)folk using their gifts to bring joy to their neighborhood.

So without further ado let me introduce you to
Derek (the dad) Rye (the mom), and Haye.

Tell me about what you are doing to beautify your neighborhood:

We paint pictures and words on cardboard with acrylic paint and zip tie it to fences in the hopes that it will make someone smile or that people will take the art and give it a home.

Who is involved with your project?

Anybody who wants to be! Pretty much every person that comes to our house. If you check out the blog you can see that our friends have been contributing. We hope that people start doing similar things in their own towns.

Why did you start the Free Art Project?

It started as a fun family activity and then when people started taking the art we got inspired.

Any inspirational words for my readers?

Our town and this particular fence is not the only place where this project can take place! People have asked if they can send us art to hang on the fence and we have responded by asking them to put art up in their own neighbourhoods and send us photos. Actually, friends have even said they will have to make art and bring it to "the fence"...but it's not just this fence. We are still eagerly waiting to get photos for our blog from other people around the world.

What I Learned This Week

Yesterday, for Motivate Me Monday, I wrote about protecting your marriage from outside relationships. One of the people who linked up was Michele from My Live as a Wife, Mother and Christian. She posted an article about planting a hedge around your marriage.

One little tidbit I gleaned from that article was to have new information to talk to your husband about daily. Put in the effort to have interesting conversation topics. Here are some suggestions:

Read the newspaper and discuss a current event.
Go on an adventure with your children. (With kids a walk around the block or a trip to the local dump can be an adventure). This way you will hopefully have a story to tell.
Start a project (hopefully you will finish it as well). You can update your husband on various aspects of your endeavor.

I'd love it if you shared some of your suggestions with me as well. Good relationships take effort! This is one area I had never thought of putting my time into.

I am going to come right out with it and tell you, I do not believe, if you are married, that it is wise to be friends with the opposite sex unless they are your siblings. I realize there will be some disagreement with that statement and that is ok. I hope you will read on however.

Now I am not talking about being friends with couples who you invite to dinner and play monopoly with every Friday night. I am talking about intimate relationships. The sort where you call your friend just to chat, the kind of friend you go out for coffee with just the 2 of you, the friend you call in a crisis should be the same gender as you.

Here's why. Rarely do you set out to sin. You might even look at your friend and think "Romance? Not in a million years."

But there is one who is out there. One who can subtly pull at your heartstrings. One who can influence your thoughts and feelings.

Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 1 Peter5:8

There it is! Do not let Satan get a foothold in your life, in your marriage.

Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life. Proverbs 4:23

Snap 'n' Learn Number Bugs- Review and Giveaway!

Have you been to visit CSN Stores? It's like a giant online shopping mall. Seriously you can buy all sorts of things for your home from kids bedding to cookware.

I just love some of the modern art and decor and the have the coolest kids toys!

Plus CSN is generous. I have seen blog giveaways for their products all over the place. And finally there is one happening here!

I have been sent a set of Learning Resourses Snap and Learn Number Bugs to review and giveaway.

Here's my review: This is an adorable toy with a variety of ways to play. Each bug has 2 body pieces and a head piece. The head pieces have numbers on them (ranging from 0-6) and the body pieces have dots. I had Hudson build all of the bodies and heads so they match, then I mix and matched the bodies so that he had to count the dots and couldn't just match the head number using color. The bugs were also very easy for Meadow to grasp and the parts were not small enough to be a choking concern. A toy that both of my kiddos can play with is definitely a bonus in my book.

What do your Sundays look like? If they are anything like mine you rush in the morning to get your family and yourself ready for church. Then you make sure your children are not disrupting the service. Then you invite someone over or head to someone's house for lunch... which turns into staying until the kid's bed time. Then you remember that you have a Motivate Me Monday post to write so you sit down and pray for inspiration.

I really want to be intentional about changing this pattern. I want to take time and rest in God's holiness.

Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.

Psalm 46:10

This enormous God wants to hang out with me. He wants me to know Him. He wants to teach me. He wants me to bask in His love. He wants to give me gifts.

Max Lucado wrote in his book Next Door Savior:

"The reward of Christianity is Christ."

And what do I do with this reward? I blow it off for a potluck and a nap. I neglect to rest in His holiness. I fill my life with busy things, too busy for Him.

On my own I will not intentionally wake up earlier, set aside my friends, turn off my sewing machine...etc and sit at the master's feet to rest. Our God loves us so much that He will come along side us and give us all we need to have a relationship with Him. Just stop and listen to the Word of God speak.

On Saturday we were traveling to the big city an hour away. This is a trip we have made many many times. In fact my husband makes this trip nearly everyday. This time we decided to have a little adventure. So we stopped at a rest stop about 20 minutes into the trip and did some exploring. (This rest stop was near a river and had a little trail to walk along).

So today I want to encourage you to be spontaneous.

Explore the unknown.

Take risks.

Get right down on your knees.

Friday Funnies Hilarious Hudson Conversation

There are strict rules in our house that one does not touch mommy's fabric or yarn. Well the other day I made Meadow a little skirt. And even though it was ~~botched~~ less than perfect I put it on her anyway. She toddled into the other room where her brother was playing.

Suddenly I hear Hudson yell in his best tattle tale voice "Mom! Meadow's wearing your fabric."

Frayed Fabric Flower Corsage Tutorial

Say that 5 times fast!

I made this frayed fabric flower cosage for a friend's birthday and I remembered to take pictures along the way. So on with the tutorial!

Materials
5-7 coordinating pieces of scrap fabric
scissors
thread
sewing machine
buttons or beads
fabric glue
ribbon

Step 1:
Cut 5-7 circles from your fabrics. Make each one smaller than the last. They don't have to be perfect.

Step 2
Sew each circle on top of the next larger one. Leave a large spacte between the edge and the stitching so the thread will be hidden by the circle on top of it. Do not sew on the smallest circle.

Step 3

Once all but the smallest circle are sewn together place the smallest circle on the top and the ribbon (long enough to tie a bow around your wrist) on the back. Pin it both on.

Step 4
Sew 2 zig zag lines to the left and right of the center of the ribbon.

Step 5
Clip the edges of all of the circles. (Like a rag quilt).

Step 6
Wash and dry your corsage.

Step 7

Use fabric glue and adhere buttons or beads to the center of your flower. Then have your 4 year old son model it while you take pictures.

Voila! A fun and springy accessory.

Motivate Me Monday- He Shows Up.

No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. Joshua 1:5

It's Sunday morning. I stayed up too late the night before. I regret some things I said at a get together we had at our house. Who am I to go out now and teach sunday school, then lead a women's bible study mid week, then discuss spiritual topics and scripture at house fellowship?
Satan's lies are in full swing. Condemning me. Beating me down. Stealing my joy.

So I trudge through. I shower and style my hair (which is not cooperating). I peer in the mirror and examine my stray eyebrow hairs, that zit between my eyes and am I sprouting a mustache? Sigh add "I'm ugly" to the list.

I get in the car with my family guzzling my coffee for survival purposes. Get to church early and set up my classroom.

I head to worship service and put in little effort to praise my King. (I mean I have to watch an 18 month old who is quick to escape if I take my eyes off her).

The children are dismissed to Sunday School and I go along with them...

As I begin to teach God shows up. As I tell the children about how wonderful it is that Jesus is alive, my heart is restored. As each child throw their hands high into the air and says their memory verse "Sing praises to the Lord." Psalm 9:11 I rejoice with them.

I stop thinking about my bad hair day and what I am wearing and celebrate.

JESUS IS ALIVE!

And He just showed up to be with me.

Market Yourself Monday-Matryoshka Dolls

It has been 7 days since I opened my Etsy shop and even though I have not made a sale yet I am having a tone of fun creating.
Plus I am so overwhelmed by the generious encouragement and support of my friends and family! Thanks everyone!

So on with the show!
My shop caters to infants and small children. I love to give gifts that I think have the potential to become a favorite toy or lovey. Something extra special. I think handmade has something above and beyond that is so appreciated by recipients.

I have a line of Matryoshka Style Baby Dolls that my own daughter loves. They are really sweet.

These dolls are quite unique because the crinkle and jingle. Then also have a wonderful ribbon tag that babies just love to nuzzle, hold or chew.
